Marsha's Story

Life Wow! What a life! Married 20 years, divorced, and now remarried, 3 great kids (mine) and 3 more (his). I'm currently living in Moline, IL. I miss the mountains in Colorado, but like living along the Miss. river. I work for the Fed Gov't - started at Lowry, then at Buckley, and now at Rock Island Arsenal, IL. I went to Metro State and received my degree in Bus Mgt, then to St. Ambrose U. in Davenport, IA for a Masters degree in Org. Development. School School - as you can tell I grew up in Aurora (Boston Elem, Fulton, West, Central, and Metro State). My mom and brother Mike still live in the same house, Ainsle is also still in Aurora. Debi is in Kansas - divorced after 35 plus years to go back with her high school (Central HS) boyfriend, and Quen is in Texas. All of us are Aurora Central Alum! College Metro State for my bachelors degree in Business Mgt/H.R. St. Ambrose University in Davenport, IA for a Masters in Organizational Leadership. Workplace First job was at Arby's on Havana near 1st Ave where Doenges Glass Ford used to be, and the mink farm owned by the Duckles before that. Then went to work Federal civil service at Lowry when DFAS was the Air Force Acctg/Finance Center. Got married and transferred out to Buckley Guard Base (now Air Base). Had three wonderful kids and took a 20 year break to raise them - worked part time here and there in Aurora/Denver. Moved to Iowa, got divorced, worked for GEICO in H.R. I then moved to Keokuk Iowa - tiny town! and worked for the newspaper there. Ended up in Moline, IL where I met a wonderful man, and I am working ...Expand for more
again for the Govt at Rock Island Arsenal. Here I am with many more years to work before I can retire! (Come on 2021!!!) My Kids - Jason and Johnny are both in the Army. Jason went to Iraq and John to Afghanistan - both will probably do another tour soon. Chrissy (the middle child) is married and both are teachers. No grandbabies yet, but that's okay. Story wizard hints to write about: I always wanted to go into accounting when I grew up. My fam and friend thought it was a good idea, I had all my math classes done by time I finished my sophmore year. My jerk of a counselor at Central wouldn't allow me to attend Pickens for advanced accounting classes - said I should get married and be a housewife! What a crock - he was the main reason I just wanted out of school and graduated mid-year. I hated high school after that "counseling session" Which teacher would I love to see again and why? Mr. Nagy - he was quite an old coot! I never realized at the time that he knew what he was talking about teaching business and investing. I now wish I had paid attention instead of laughing about how he always scratched his butt and his head. If I won $100 million, I'd give 10 percent of it to church, then spend the rest on investments, bills and kids/parents/vacationing. My first job was at Arbys, where I got paid $3.50/hr to cashier. What I remember most about it is when the manager dropped the roast on the floor and then cooked and served it anyway. I have yet to be back for any reunions - wish they were combined to include the ears before and after so we could see all our friends.
