Marvin's Story
2 Aug 2013 - I lived in Renault in Monroe County, IL, until I was nine, and I attended the Renault grade school for grades one through three. I added my name to the Waterloo HS class of 1962 in hopes of contacting others in the class. I believe there were five of us at first, and my memory is that there were only four in 1952-53. I remember two first names and can picture these people, but that's about it.
Life
It's hard to imagine that anyone cares, but here goes. (02/04/07)
I retired from teaching in 2002 after thirty-four years: twenty-one in public schools, thirteen teaching inmates as a Department of Corrections Educator. I had served as an adjunct English instructor for Spoon River Community College and MacMurray College as well.
My wife Joanne retired two and a half years later, and we've been able to do some traveling, but I think we most enjoy being at home on our sixty acres of Illinois River bottoms and bluffs -- none of it's actually tillable land, unless you consider timber a crop.

graphy for many years, and she has been able to work on organizing her photos, as well as scanning and saving very old family pictures (hers and mine) since her retirement.
I spend quite a bit of my time working on and using three Power King Tractors (previously called Economy Tractors: they're more than garden tractors but not full-fledged farm tractors). We've owned one of them since it was new in 1981 when I tried to sell them as a local dealer. It was a bad time to sell anything, as most of principal employers in the area closed or drastically downsized during that period, and even people who still had jobs couldn't get loans. I came out of it with a good tractor and a number of implements, though. And e-mail has put me in contact with a number of other owners and enthusiasts for these tractors. The name Power King continued into the nineties, but the actual tractors pretty much disappeared from the market by 1983.
We have four grandchildren. Our daughter and our elder son each have a girl and a boy.
Life is very good.
