Mary Ann's Story
Life
I left GAHS with the class of '71. I spent 4 happy years at Ohio U, as a speech/reading/English education major. I lived in Athens an another 7 years, while I was a teacher for the Vinton County Schools.
In 1983 I married and moved to the family farm near Kent, Ohio. My front year is a corn or soybean field, and for the first 15 years, we always had a barn full of hogs. Now my farmer-husband farms, and supervises the drilling of gas and oil wells. My husband and his dad are business partners, and we all live on the farm, where my sons are the 5th generation.
We have two sons, Daniel Beman Nething, currently at Ohio University, and Benjamin Beman Nething, a freshman at Southeast Local in Portage County, his dad's alma mater.
I have always been a teachers. I did my graduate work in Special Education, and currently teach for the Warren City Schools, and their special educator to the Parochial Schools.
My dad came to live with us 12 years ago, when he began to have problems that turned out to be clinical depression. He has great doctors here, and what could be more fun than living with me, Don, the two boys, the dalmation, ...Expand for more
and all the wildlife in the front yard--deer, turkey, coon, and the occasional coyote.
Sister Jane is married and lives in Charleston, WV, works for the WV Dept of Transportation. She spent most of her adult life as a legal secretary in Columbus. They moved to Charleston when her husband inherited his parents home about 5 years ago. Brother Dennis lives in Rio, at my dad's home up by the UM Church. He has a son, Drew, a student at URG. Dennis has been divorced for many years, but is reconciled with his wife, Tammy. ( She was Tammy Brown, and her dad worked at either Haskins-Tanner or Thomas Clothier for our entire lives.)
I don't have many relatives in SEOhio. My grandmother passed, at age 94. Aunt Monna and Uncle Bill, who never left home, moved to Florida when he retired. Their son, Scott, lives in their home in Wellston. He's divorced, with 4 children in the Waverly Schools. My Beman cousins still live in Thurman. My cousin married Susan Sprow from GAHS '72, so she's now Mrs. Beman, teaching music at Rio Grande Elementary.
That's us in a nutshell. Hope you're well. Even if you arent', send us a note.
