Mary Ann's Story

2/18/11 Hi Guys, I'm joining for a short time but would love to catch up with St. Martin Knight's.LOL Remember our school song? I'm glad to be a Martinight , I keep the rules and do what's right................ Cheers for dear St. Martin hall the best school in our land. All for one and one for all, the best school in our land.... (a little nostalgia) I saw Donna Poston's mom at my mon's house blessing in Helotes. My mom, Aileen just moved in with my little sister Loretta in a beautiful house in Helotes. ... I haven't seen anyone from grade school since reunion at Anita Guardiola's restaurant "Skipper"? lets do that again... I'm in San Antonio. I have my business Music Therapy Works and have been a music therapist since graduating from TWU in 1983. I have 10 subcontractors that work for me and love doing music therapy for developmentally disabled. I also have GIM Fellowship and hope to get back to doing Guided Imagery with music with general population for personal growth issues. I received a Masters in Ed. 2001,LPC from Southwest University and love the counseling program there. I still jam on my violin and guitar. I jam with southside friends several times a year such as Jimmy Spacek, Lonnie Folshinsky, Dan Balcar and more.....I play jazz and blues and pop and country. I can also fiddle on the violin. I taught both violin and guitar on the side for 5 years until my caseload tripled which is why i expanded my business. I also played in the Incarnate Word Community orchestra for 4 years. I played first chair, second violin most the time. I love music, cooking, geneaolgy, traveling and like to work out at the gym. I go to Port Aransas yearly but also have gotten to London and Paris for a vacation. I still enjoy a glass of cold beer - only on occasion (like Smitwicks which is what the locals drink in Ireland) and have gone to Ireland as well where my aunt brews beer and wine in her basement. The Stapleton side of my family still have their sheep farm and my sister Loretta and i got to milk the cows. Yikes!!! I love my home and it has lots of trees and a big backyard to have plenty of room for barbecuing and gardening where i can ki...Expand for more
ll off a few plants on occasion. I try to have a birthday jam once every few years in my backyard. I had over 20 musicians plus many amigos at the last bash, 2009. I live northwest San Antonio by Callaghan and Vance Jackson which is not far from where i went to 9th grade Ursuline Academy. I found a cool place called Cocoa Bistro off 281 for a nice break or even the Lion's pub on San Pedro for some good Irish food/snacks!! But there are also many places to jam these days, even with the fiddle and acoustic instruments. I have kept up with a few people from Ursuline or Jefferson and talk to Anne Scanlan Shaul, Debbie Hernandez Way or even Juliet Burnett. I have seen Mario Garcia, Claudia Garcia, Richard Saunders, Rex Fischer, heard about Paul Homburg and seen Jimmy Elrod once. I go to every highschool reunion. I got married to someone from my highschool reunion so that should be a surprize to figure who that is. He was in orchestra with me, 5th grade teacher for 4 years and rides a motorcycle (that i have never gotten on yet). I am hoping to join facebook or linked in one day or set up a cool website. I would like to promote by business and share songs i write with other therapists as well as promote creative techniques i have developed. PS My brother Michael owns 2 restaurants in Austin, Mirabelle and Streat for those wanting to hook up with him. Margaret works for the legislative Council in Austin, she is supervisor of proofreading for all those amendments. Jeannie is psycotherapist in Austin, Patrick got Masters in Divinity, studied at the Gregorian School in Rome, had been working at Mirabelle but now working on Masters in Italian literature in Austin. He has taken 3 - 4 small groups of American tourists to the vineyeards and land of Italy in past 3 years. Kathleen worked for Boys Scouts Magazine as Fiction Editor for over 15 years but is thinking about relocating. My little sister Loretta is Vice President for the Hilton and travels all the time. My mom Aileen is still very active with bridge and church and works out at Curves. Everyone is doing well. I have some great nieces in Austin too. LOL Mary Ann Vilim Baker
