Mary Catherine's Story
Life
I complete my French studies degree this year, after returning to college, enjoying travel and study in France, and discovering new places and people, following my husband's death several years ago, after nearly 20 years of marriage. Both my girls were married last year. The eldest just finished grad school, and the youngest gave me a beautiful baby granddaughter this year--see picture!
I am so grateful for growing up in Anacortes. Rambling all over an island was an enchanted sort of world. When I dream, I still see the channel, dotted with little islands in the distance, and the rest of the world somewhere beyond the golden glow of the setting sun on the horizon.

opera, attend concerts, theater, and symphony whenever I can. I watch a lot of French films. I walk or do ballet for exercise, and enjoy simple ballroom social dancing just for fun.
I still read a lot--French and English history, mostly, but literature, arts, and philosophy and economic history, as well. I sing or play piano when I can, and I still enjoy music of all sorts. This year, I immersed myself in Baroque music and art, while studying the French Renaissance and Classical period! But I am also very fond of South American and Latin music! I can't imagine a world without music!
The highlights this year were another trip to France--part of the time with my daughter, birth of granddaughter Elizabeth, and finishing my degree. L
