Mary's Story

Life Since I left Presentation, I attended St. Mark's High School, entered the Dominican Convent in Sparkill, New York, spent four years there (yep, full habit-the works), taught 4th grade and then left the order and returned to ST. Louis. I worked St. Louis U. as a secretary while finishing college. Got married in 1969 (still married to the same guy)and had four kids. I went back to teaching after sixteen years of child rearing and taught elementary and early childhood. I spent the last 8 years of my career as administrator of an early childhood program. I retired a year after my husband, in 2003. I now have four grandkids and 3 in-law kids (soon to be four). A lot of my my time is spent helping out with the grandkids when work schedules of the parents require...Expand for more
. I volunteer as a docent and teacher at the Botanical Gardens. Right now I'm teaching parent and child preschool classes. I also am a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate), which takes up a great deal of my time but feels to me like one of the best jobs I've had. CASA's represent children who have been removed from the custody of their parents because of abuse or neglect. Hopefully, many of them will either be returned to their (more functional) biological families or be placed in permanent adoptive homes. For the Presentation crowd,I still keep in touch with Sr. Robert Ellen (Sr. Ann Chamblin, now). We have lunch at least once a month, and she remembers every one of you! Would love to hear from any St. Mark's or Presentation friends. Mary (Chott) Grossmann
