Mary Dee's Story
After leaving high school, I spent 2 very non-directional years in a community college, then married my current husband, Michael Bondmass in 1969. I have one son, Michael Jr and he has one child, Joseph (12 years old). My son and his family live in Virginia Beach, VA. When my son was school age, I went back to school to become a paramedic and practiced pre-hospital emergency medicine that for nearly 6 years. Realizing that being a paramedic was very near the bottom of the totem-poll in healthcare, I decided to go back to college to study to be a nurse – and I did not stop until I received my PhD. I graduated from the College of DuPage in 1986 with an Associate Degree, Loyola University with a Bachelors and a Master’s Degree in 1990 and 1993, respectively, and my doctoral degree is from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), in 2002. ator in critical care units, emergency departments, and in the College of Medicine at Loyola, Northwestern University, and the UIC.
In 2001, I moved to Las Vegas (Chicago winters just did me in!) where I worked as an Assistant and later Associate professor of Nursing at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas until 2011 (tenured and promoted to department Chair in 2010). From 2011 through 2015, I took a position as the Director of Graduate education at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. My husband stayed in Las Vegas when I moved to DC and due to his poor heath (and his laying on a total guilt trip on my), I moved back to Las Vegas at the end of 2015 and currently serve as the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs in the School of Nursing at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
My ambition over the next 10 years is to acquire Italian citizenship and spend a year in Italy (preferably Sicily) and retire at the age of 75.
