Mary's Story
I went to KU straight out of high school and got a BS in Biology (EEB). After college, I got married and moved to St Louis. *That* didn't pan out.
I moved to Kansas City, became a live-in nanny with a full-time job on the side, and got a divorce. I was planning to back to school for my Master's when I was blessed by a tragedy.
I adopted a soldier being sent to Iraq, and after a year and a half of correspondance, he was injured horribly and sent home. Three months and almost constant visits to the hospital later,...Expand for more
I moved to DC to be with him as he recovered and learned to walk on prosthetics.
Brian retired from the Army in October of 2008 and we moved to his hometown in Massachusetts. We had a beautiful home built in Plymouth, and we married on June 8 of 2008, the two-year anniversary of his injury.
I still plan to get my Master's, but it will be juggled around Brian's continued recovery and our plans to start a family. I'm looking to study Genetics Counseling, hopefully at either Brandeis or BU, starting in Fall of 2010.
