Mary's Story

Well, I got married 10 months after high school graduation to Jack Cheney, a 4-year Marine Corp vet whom I met one week after our school prom. Grant was born in 1970, Adam in 1973. Our favorite return vacation spot was Ocracoke Island on the Outer Banks of North Carolina; now it's too commercial to enjoy. An unforgettable memory on one of those trips was we arrived one day early before the bed&breakfast opened for the season. The caretakers turned the beautifully decorated but empty Castle over to us anyway, told us to pick any suite we wanted, trusting us to behave. Jack and I played hide and seek in the two and three-story 30-some room mansion that had hidden stairways, different access points, soooo many good hiding spots. Later we made popcorn and watched TV in their stocked great room. There was a storm that night, adding to the ambiance. Worked in the Apartment Industry 20+ years until retirement in 2014. Ava, our granddaughter, came to live with us in 2012 at 20 months old (Jack had just retired a few months earlier), through today 7/2019 at 10 1/2 years old. She's pretty smart in school due to a couple of old-fogies raising her, I guess. I love teaching her big (well, grown-up) words so the teachers look at her like she's precocious. I had to laugh when Ava told us how the teacher mispronounced "hyperbole" as hyper bole (instead of hi-per-bol-eee for those still wondering). Looking forward to retirement travel in about 8 more years :-}. Got my eye on a nifty walker! Took up beading, wirework, general jewelry and craft making, getting pretty proficient, if I may s...Expand for more
ay so myself. The goal is to one day open an Etsy shop as my collection of jewelry and other creations are getting quite massive and unruly. UPDATE!!!! I have an Etsy shop now: Mimi's Pearls and Gems: mimispearlsandgems. Stop by and say hi! We've only lived in 3 spots: our honeymoon apartment in Grosse Pte Park for 2 years, our first home in Eastpointe, MI for 25 years, then built our current home in Macomb, MI in 1997. This was to be our investment house, flip, and move on, but alas, life happened. Would love to move to New Zealand where life appears tranquil, lacking the upheaval and idiocy the good ole' USofA is now experiencing. I'm a common-sense Republican and hate what the once Democratic party has un-done to our "One Nation, under God". Speaking of granddaughter's, ours has been begging for a puppy since day one, but we've ever-so-patiently declined that experience (we watch our son's often enough to almost rate as owning one). Well, she's accepted that bit of sad news and has moved on to a horse. WHAT???? Good news is I have two new peepers as of this past Tuesday. Had cataract removal and new lenses put in. I'm still wondering if there was a color-change option I missed? Oh, hubby and I have been on Elysium Basis about four years now. According to scientists, including the backing of seven Nobel Prize Laureates, mice are experiencing longer, healthier lives, regenerating newer cellular growth. I've been off some serious pain killers nine months now and feel better than before diagnosed. Just sayin'. Hope there's an edit button when I go back and read this.
