Matt's Story
Life
Life is good. My wife, Jules, and I recently moved out of the city - Portsmouth, Hampshire (UK) to a new house in the countryside still in Hampshire.
We are trying for a family so hopefully won't be too long untill we end up with a mini Matt or mini Jules.
Enjoying travelling as much as possible, snowboarding in the winter and beach holidays in the summer, sure that will soon be different when a baby comes, who knows.
School
Amrican International School in Nice was good fun. I can remember thinking 'Cooler Shaker ... how layed back is this place compared to the schools here in England'.
Actually learnt quite a bit whilst out there, even though I only attended AIS for 18 months due to parents work assignment to Nice.
Due to the different education systems (UK & US) it was neccessary for me to be in a higher year in France so that was cool, I learnt alot. But it was a bit of a drag in the sense that I was a year younger than everyone in the class, so the crushes I had on the girls in my class weren't reciprocated cos .. well lets face it girls at shcool don't go for younger guys, anyhoo no matter .. all good fun!
Remember doing alot of long distance running for the AIS school in tons of competitions in the region. We...Expand for more
always used to win in the athletics against the other US school in the region.
One of my claims to fame was I local race in the area. The race was a fun run, say 3km, and a long distance cross country run, maybe 20km). Alot of people from AIS went into the fun run but only myself and the sports teacher at the time, Mr.Dorran, went into the long race. Anyhow, yep you guessed I beat him, so I continued to run seriously when I got back to England and ended up running for Hampshire.
College
When I left school at 16 with 10 high grades, I joined IBM as an Electronics / Software Apprentice. This lasted four years during which I did day release to a technical college and ended up with a degree equivalent certificate as it was college / work scheme.
Workplace
After finishing my apprenticeship with IBM, I stayed with them for a few years. I then went freelance and worked for some large corporates in the UK and also Holland. After five years freelance ended up back at IBM in 2000 but then left a year later and started working for a smaller software company as an IT Consultant.
Stayed there for 5 years, and have now since moved on and joined a company 5 weeks ago as a Technical Project Manager. Going very well.
Military
