Matt's Story
After Lane, I went to Lincoln High School. It was rough. The academics were much higher than SE Portland and I never fit in with the rich kids from the hills. I found a niche in athletics that carried me forward but my roots were always in SE felony flats. My heart was confused and wanting more than the flats of felonious though.
After HS, I went to the University of Oregon. I became the collegiate national champion in the sport of triathlon (Go Ducks!!) and this set my path for some time, pursuing a career as a professional triathlete. After college, I turned professional, got sponsored, and moved to the central coast of California where I focused on training and racing. I sucked as a pro. 0 years dedicated to this obscure sport.
After I finished racing, I went to graduate school in the Bay Area of California. I worked a couple of years in the Bay Area and really enjoyed living in the East bay and also the city before moving abroad. I have been living and working internationally for quite a while now.
It's a big world and I enjoy traveling. America really sucks once you leave and realize what other countries have and how they care for their own people.
A fun fact I have realized years later:... the symbol for Lane Middle School is still the "quasar" and the design that is still used today was created by....... me! I never got credit when I submitted my drawing. This was way back when us Lane MS'ers were bussed across town to NE Portland (to the old Monroe Women's polytechnic school) for the two years that the former Lane Elementary School was being converted to its current MS existence.
