Matthew's Story

Life Hey... Its been a while since high school. Those were definitely some turbulent years for me. I was expelled from Whippany Park after 6 months. Next, I spent a couple of years in special-ed school (Lafayette Learning Center) in Morristown. At the age of 17, after an LSD overdose, I was picked up by the police and court-ordered to got rehab. I decide to quit drugs and my behavior and outlook changed accordingly. For my Senior year, I was permitted to return to the normal school system except this time to Hanover Park rather than Whippany Park. Things went downhill. I got back into drugs and then attempted suicide. I did manage to graduate with the help of a tutor. The next few years were spent feeling very empty and hopeless. At the age of 22, however, I experienced a dramatic change in my life. I began conversing with the drummer of a hardcore band called "No Innocent Victim" that was based out of California. The drummer's name was Jason Dunn. He began sending me Bible tracts and talking to me about Jesus Christ. Up to that point in my life I had hated anything to do with religion and authority. However, my philosophy of life simply wasn't working. I felt neither happy nor fulfilled. I wanted to dedicate my life to something that was worth believing in - worth dying for if it came to that. I began reading the Bible. I was especially affected by the book of Revelation which speaks of God's final judgment on the earth, "And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of...Expand for more
fire" (Revelation 20:15). I knew that I wasn't right-with-God. Over the next couple of weeks I wrestled with the thought of giving my life to Christ. I had always viewed Christians as being uptight, stuffy, and boring. I finally came to the conclusion that, even if this was true (which I later found was not the case), it was still better than suffering an eternal torment. I've been a Christian for about 10 years now. I've never regretted my decision to follow Jesus. I still have my ups and downs and my share of trials. However, there is a difference. I see these struggles through a different perspective. The Bible teaches that, "This slight momentary affliction is preparing for us (Believers) an eternal weight of glory that is beyond all comparison." No matter how bad things get, I know that this world is not my home. I'm just an alien, passing through on the way to my permanent residence - heaven. I'm so thankful for the grace and mercy of God, that, even when I hated Him and rebelled against His commands, He still loved me and reached out to me. If you're reading this, its quite likely that you knew me at one time - probably before I knew Jesus Christ. If you desire to experience the peace and confidence that comes through knowing Jesus Christ, I would love to talk with you and share some more. -matt "But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God" (Romans 5:8,9).
