Matthew's Story
Life
My life after high school has been interesting to say the least. I joined the Army National guard so I had some help paying for school. Right after H.S. I went to Sandhills Community College. I spent a year at Sndhills. Directly after I went to basic training. From there I went to my military occupation specialty training. When I finished with that I went to ECU for one semester. At the beggining of my second semester my unit was called to active duty. Durring our year and a half tour of duty we spent time in Texas and 9 months in Afghanistan. I came home from Afghanistan in May of '04. In the fall of '04, I reinrolled at ECU. By the end of '04 I realized that it was not the right time for me to go back to school, so I dropped out of ECU.
When I got back from Afghanistan I satrted working for Best Buy part time installing car stereos. While still working part time, in june of '05 I bought my first house!!! I am loving the pride of home owner ship. I quit Best Buy and now work installing Vehicle Breathalizers, known as Ignition Interlock Systems. They are to help prevent drunk drivers from driving drunk again. I enjoy knowing I am helping the common good and I enjoy the paychecks too.
School
Afetr H.S. I spent a full year at Sandhills Community College where I did quite well. After a break from school I went to East Carolina University for a semester in which I did very porly. After yet another break, 1 1/2 years this time, I went back to ECU hoping to do better. Yeah right, I did worse. So I dropped out and I am waiting till I am more motivated and I will go back when I am in school for the right reasons. There is nothing worse than doing bad in college because you did not go there for yourse...Expand for more

It is 2010 and time for a new me. I am making plans to return to school finally. I will start small at Wake Tech before transferring to NC State
for electronic engineering.
Workplace
I have not had many jobs since high school. I have worked at Gold's Gym and I was in the National Guard where I served over seas. I have also worked at the Best Buy in Greenville, N.C. At Best Buy I installed car stereos and other mobile electronics. Now I am working for a company called Monitech. At Monitech I install Ignition Interlock Systems into all kinds of cars for all kinds of people. An ignition interlock system is a system that requires you to blow into it before you can start the car. And if you have alcohol on your breath you can not start your car.
And now that I have some time with this company I am moving up. I will soon be helping manufacture and repair the very units I install. Wow, that will be a great new challenge. And I will even be doing this part time while I go to school. So I will have relevant real world experience while going to school, and free tutors, lol.
Military
After High school I joined the National Guard so that I could afford to go to school. Normally in the Guard you only go once a month and for 2 weeks in the summer. Fairly simple and easy. Or it was till the Day after Christmas in '02, and the day of My grandfather's funeral. On that day I was Alerted by the National Guard, meaning we were told that we were going to be activated soon. Begining of January '03, we were called to active duty. I was on active duty for a year and a half. The last 9 months of the tour were spent in Bagrahm, Afghanistan. After returning home, I remained in the national Guard until my contract ran out.
