Matthew's schools include Fordson High School, Class of 1969. United States Army - Basic Training, Fort Knox, Kentucky, 26 October 1969. Orders for Vietnam at the age of 19. Vietnam 1970-1971. The following is a tribute to a wonderful young man that never had a chance to live. He was one of my best friends / brothers in combat. His name was Jacob Benedict Babin, from Massachusetts. Jake made the ultimate sacrifice. He was killed in action (KIA) along with many others, north of Hue, South Vietnam, on 26 March 1971, at the age of 21. Thank you, my brother! John 15;13-17 Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, (Vietnam combat), Presidential Unit Citation, expert marksman. We engaged the enemy at; Quang Tri, (I-Corps),Thua Thien Province, Hue, Dong Ha, Hai Van Pass, and parts of Laos (LAMSON, 719). I was a Sergeant, with 6 years of Honorable military service, including Arlington National Cemetery, Fort Myer, Virginia. Many young men sacrificed their lives, limbs and minds in Vietnam. 58,220 young men died in Vietnam. Over 100,000 Vietnam veterans have committed suicide since returning from Vietnam. On average, 20 American military veterans kill themselves, everyday. A high price has been paid to live in this great country. We were married on a Sunday afternoon in 1984 (the happiest day of my life) at Martha Mary Chapel, Greenfield Village, Dearborn, Michigan. We were blessed with one awesome son. I was happily married to my sweet Adelle for 25 short years. Adelle fought against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and was totally paralyzed - for nine long years. I married a very tough, courageous, wonderful woman. Adelle was a Sunday school teacher, and a born again Christian. So, I have no doubt where Adelle is spending her eternal life! She is walking on streets of gold, without the cares of this life! Adelle was the most altruistic, sweetest, kindest human being I've ever known. I buried my sweetheart when she was 50 years of age. Not a day passes that I don’t love and miss, Adelle! What a wonderful reunion I’ll have with Adelle in Heaven one day! My greatest earthly honor was being her husband. . .
