Matthew's Story

What do you want to know about me? Most of what there is to tell is allready in my profile. After high school I went to work. In '86 I joined the U.S. Navy reserve. I served an eight year contract and received my DD214 (honorable discharge) in '94. I served during Desert Storm, but didn't get called to go. I've had a variety of jobs, the longest for 10 1/2 years. In '01 I enrolled at ITT Technichal Institute. In '03 I graduated with an "Associate in Specialized Technology Degree in Computer and Electronics Engineering Technologies". I managed to graduate with High Honors, a 4.0 GPA, and perfect attendance. All while carrying a full class schedule (96 credits in two years) and working a full time job. Not long after graduation, I was hired by a design/invention company to do electronics for them. It turned out not to be all what I had hoped for. 3 1/2 years ago I was hired by Siemens to test High voltage, variable frequency drives. I still work there today as a tech 2. Good benefits, good pay, close to home, room for advancement, and as stable a multi-national company as can be found in these times. I can't complain. After graduation my parents divorced and both remarried. My mother had another child just before the divorce and then another a few years after. So I have a 24 year old brother, and a 21 year old half brother. I'm actually old enough to be either ones father. At first it was strange to have a sibling that young, but you get used to it. The youngest is starting his junior year in college at IUP. My parents are both still around and everyone is pretty healthy. As some of my interests in my profile I listed hunting and fishing. To be more specific, most of the hunting I do is archery hunting for white tail deer. I persue many types of fishing (when time permits), but am partial to trout fishing, mostly with a fly rod. I conside...Expand for more
r myself an avid fly fisher with over 20 years of experience. In fact, I offer beginning lessons in fly fishing and have started compiling information for a beginners guide to trout fishing with a fly rod. I hope to begin writing that soon and plan on using it as part of a fly fishing class cariculum. I started fishing for steelhead (a trout species in the great lakes) several years ago and recently began using center-pin drift fishing techniques to catch these large and wary fish. Very challenging. Are you or someone you know interested in learning about fly casting/fishing? Let me know, and I can arrange to give lessons. I'm always glad to share what I know with others. My daughter (Gwendolyn) turned 18 this spring, and graduated high school not long after. She doesn't know exactly what her plans are, but then neither did I at that age. We are pushing her to continue her education immediately, even if she goes to a tech school for an associates degree to start with. It can be a stepping stone to something else. I would like to get back in touch with as many of my high school classmates as possible. Hopefully to renew old friendships, and make many more new ones. I've changed a lot since then. We all have. In the past two years, I have run into a few of our classmates, and most of them didn't even recognize me. I usually recognized them. I'm not sure what that means exactly, maybe I've changed even more than I thought I had. I see the same person when I look in the mirror. But then again I see me every day and wouldn't even notice the difference. I will post a photo as soon as I am able, and you can be the judge. As I said before, most everything else to know about me, generally speaking, is in my profile. If you would like more specifics, let me know and I will try to give you the details. Take care and keep in touch. Matt
