Matthew's Story

Life Hello ya'll. I joined the Navy in January of 2001 and it was the best choice of my life. I've completed Hospital Corpsman School and completed Areospace Medical Technican(AVT) school in Pensacola, FL. Lets see... I've been stationed on the USS George Washington CVN-73 for three years and the transfered to Sewells Point Branch Health Clinic Naval Station Norfolk. I've done two cruises in the Persain Gulf and have taken some college while at sea. Still working on my degree in Microbiology & Biochemistry with a minor in History. Not sure were I want to end up but looking still at becoming a Medical Doctor. Heading back to Washington State spring of 2006 to finish up my degree and then I'll be applying to Medical School. School Well High School was fun at TJ and taking college course in the Persian Gulf was even more FUN! College is what I do in the spare time in Chesapeak, VA. I don't pay for anything, other than the text books, and get full credits for the course I'm taking. Right now I'm attending Tide Water Community College here in Virginia to continue my degree in Microbiology & Biochemistry to transfer to Medical School at the U of W to be a Medical Doctor. Bit of a change since last time I wrote in this page. After working with PA's and MD's I decided that 4 years of school plus med school isn't that bad. Right now in the Navy they are paying 100% tuition for me. Great deal considering I make just about the same as I did in High School! Though being in the Navy has disadvantages, not being able to be a full time student, its well worth joining. I'll be coming home in spring o...Expand for more
f 2006 and hopefully can enroll at the University of Washington to finish my degree. Hope to see you all around Workplace Well life after High School saw me join the Military and go see the world. I have been to Suda Bay, Creet; Lisben, Portugal; Koper, Slavania; Jabal Ali, U.A.E.; Naples, Italy and a few other ports in the Mediterranean Sea. Work is constanly on the move, going to and from different ships in the battle fleet. At times travaling to different Medical Centers through out the East Coast. As of January 2005 I had just transfered off of the USS George Washington to Sewells Point Branch Health Clinic. I'm getting ready to move to Washington State as I will be getting out of active duty and going into the Reserves. I'll be stationed hopefully with a Reserve Unite in Tacoma, but if need be I'll be heading to Whidbey Island. Military Started off as an E-1 and not a dime in my pocket. Now a days I'm an E-4 with a dime in my pocket. Really! I made E-4 my first time after taking the test in March '03. I've been stationed on the USS George Washington and now I'm stationed at Branch Health Clinic Naval Station Norfolk Sewells Point. It has been fun and enjoyable for the most part. Being away from family and half a world away from friends was tough, but well worth it in the end. I've acchieved more in the Military than ever possible in regular life. I'm about about two years in to my degree for Microbiology and Biochemistry with a chance at becoming an officer in the Navy. Its been a blessing to be in this service, being able to protect and defend our freedom and our way of life.
