Matthew's Story
Life
Doing Market Research for the lottery. Number crunching...mmmm.
I'm in a power pop band called Full Speed Veronica. We just finished recording a four song demo. It should be available for your ears soon (actually you can check out rough mixes on the band's myspace site). We play Albuquerque and Santa Fe, look for the name.
And you can find me and the band on myspace, too.
Oh yeah, and there are videos of my old band, Old Beans, on YouTube (just search Old Beans Albuquerque).
I'm living on my own. Moved out of the house my brother (Aaron) and I shared for over a decade, as he and his fiance had a little girl last August. I'm a few blocks down the road in a triplex.
School
Whatever. Do you remember high school that well? I mean, it was half a life ago. I'm sure I had crushes on many, many different girls I rarely talked to. I was in band, and that's stayed with me.
College
College. I thought I was gonna become the next great writer. And then I became the next not so great hack. But working at the New Mexico L...Expand for more
obo (UNM student paper) did make me start up a magazine after college. Then lose a lot of money. But a couple of people I met, or who wrote for the magazine, are kind of famous now. They don't send me any money though, so no plugs for you Chuck and Dave.
Workplace
Drifted, didn't want a job right out of college. Tried to write a good novel (the good part didn't happen) or two. Learned layout and design at the college newspaper, which got me a job a few years later at the afternoon paper (meaning very early mornings for layout) for a few years. Got tired of bad pay and even worse hours. Quit. Fell into a market research job. Then got upgraded to a Senior Research Analyst. I made fun of TV and print ads for IBM, Intel and others. Scrapped with senior management over pay and philosophy. Was there for over six years.
And now I work on the Westside for Intralot, trying to fend off attacks from the lottery.
I do have shorter hair than I did in high school (and college).
And looking for new ways to sell out. Always.
