Meghan's Story
Life
Living with my boyfriend of two years in the Burbank area, I spent what little free time I have reading, sewing, designing and drawing. My life seems very busy right now.
The weekends are filled with creativity and hanging out with friends drinking far too much. Occasionally I'll hit up a few Goth/Industrial clubs.
I do have a big trip planned in April to the East Coast. It's time to meet the SO's parents. o_O I've never been to the East Coast so I'm excited about being able to explore a new area. In 2008 I'll be visiting Ireland with a group of close friends. The reality of that dream hasn't quite hit yet.
School
Not much to say here, school was school
Elementary school is fuzzy for me besides friends like Crystal Davis and April Irvine. And the fights.
Jr High and the beginning of High School I'd much prefer to block out of my memory.
College.... was just not.... fun. Who ever thought 13+ hours spent on homework per day should be legal needs to be shot.... I was never able to really live back then. School sucking up all of my time and a very possessive b/f (ah the dating mistakes we make). That's probably why I'm so active now.
College
I majored in Fashion design, wanted to drop out so many times I lost count but ...Expand for more
couldn't. Hated it and the, 4:30am wakeup call just to spend 3 hours on the 405. Hated seeing all the girls totter around with their fake DD cups, super low rise jeans or tiny mini skirts with the bleach blond hair and fake tans, all trying to stumble around in their high spike heals dragging behind them about 50 pounds of school supplies (we didn't have lockers, stupid college). 1) Not wise when your on your feet for 6 hour pattern drafting classes. 2) Flat out STUPID dressing like that in Downtown LA. Common sense is lacking at FIDM.
Theatre Costume made me more bitter. We were the redheaded step child of FIDM. Doubtful I'll ever use that degree since it DOESNT PAY. So... all I have to show for that is an amazing sense of style and top notch sewing skills. All the while wondering what I'll do 10 years from now. At least I can make really cool clothing?
Workplace
I finally freed myself from Fashion and I'm now working as a Graphics Designer in an Advertising company. =) I got sick of the rock bottom pay, the nonstop crunch time, the low if any benefits and fighting to get common holidays off. Fashion isn't this world full of glamor and sparkle. It's hell. I was scared shitless switching industries but damn am I glad I took that chance.
