Mel's Story

When I graduated from RHS in 1972, I never thought I would take the road less traveled or blaze a path for others to follow. I followed some of my fellow graduates to NTSU and stayed there for 2 years. As fate turned out I was to pay for my own college education. In December 1976 I finished my Associates Degree at Richland College while working full time in the Computer Industry. While gaining expertise in the Computer Industry, I worked and continued work on my Bachelors Degree, which I completed in May 1981 with graduation from Loyola University with a BS in Computer Science. A long time to get my BS degree in Computer Science, and I have not programmed a line of code for an application program since getting it. I met my current and second wife over 33 years ago in a Computer Room at a tape drive hanging a tape. She too was continuing her education and finally passed her CPA. with all types of Data Networking and Protocols for over 34 years in the Industry. I tried to payback to the Industry by teaching College Courses in Networking and Telecommunications at DeVry University, in Dallas as an Adjunct Professor. If you use mobile phones most likely you are traversing a Network I helped build and design while at Nortel Networks (now Ericsson), twice as a full time employee and twice as a contractor. So, next time you use you cell phone I most likely had something to do with setting up the Core Network for the provider you are using. Both of my boys have graduated from High School and are attempting College. Yes, they are taller than I am. We live in Northwest Dallas County not far from RHS or where I work. On weekends I shoot Archery. New things always come into our lives, a red headed granddaughter was a big surprise on 12/04/07 when she was born. She is now in her threes and "NO" is her favorite word.

I got a Panasonic cassette player with AM/FM radio. Now it could run off AC or battery power and I used it in the 1964 Chevy Bellaire I drove Fall of 1970 to Fall 1971 since the Chevy had a AM radio and all the rock station
