April 1, 2005: Accepted a position with a software company in Nanjing, China. I closed the business I'd been operating for seven years in Houston, Texas, sold the house, and moved myself and my two canine kids to Nanjing. I am now using many of those languages that I speak but never got to use at work, and am learning Mandarin. My Japanese was getting rusty from disuse but I now speak it ...Expand for more
about once a week. I am one of four foreigners in a company of 300 Chinese employees, so I feel a little isolated at times. For the most part, life is good. Nov. 1, 2006: Left the software company and am working for an American company out of Dallas, Texas, but am still in Nanjing. Am scheduled to move to Beijing in July 2007. My Mandarin is coming along and I am now learning to read--no easy task!
