Melinda's Story
Soooo, I was cute and cool in first grade at Henley Elementary(the first time) but I flunked it because the teacher said I was 'immature' meaning I was a bratt. The middle of 1st grade the second time around, I had to get glasses which lowered my social standing from popular down to hanging with the nose pickers and the kids that pooped their pants.
I lost the glasses in 6th grade and if anyone knows me became kind Of a terror. I got a long with every social class but if you challenged me, I was up for it. I sometimes hung out with the wrong crowds but I always had good grades (my inner nerd)
I remember standing outside where the smokers use to hang out. I must have been trying to be cool but it was kind of hard to be cool when my grandpa was the man who picked up the garbage scraps from the cafeteria to feed to his pigs. He had all these stinky garbage cans in the back of his little red pickup. He would stop and yell to me with his toothless grin, "Hey, Poopie Doo!" Yeh, really not cool.
I moved from the country to town in High School and had to leave Henley High School (which I loved) and started going to Mazama. What a change. Instead of cowboys, stoners, nerds and preps, they...Expand for more
had stoners, preps, athletes, nerds and losers. I got a long with all of them just like in Henley except for the cheerleaders because they had no talent and only got there because their parents had clout with someone in the school. Henley's cheerleaders could actually do the splits and were athletic.
School was too easy for me. Mazama's classes were too easy for me. I ended up meeting a guy and marrying him (DUMB ME) I quit school and got a GED.
Life went on, I remarried blah blah blah had three kids, went to college moved to Springfield, Oregon and remarried again not all in that particular order.
I lost my eight year financial job due to the economy so I opened up my own resale baby goods store. I love it. I have the best job on earth. I get to see cute kids all day and then they leave with their parents. I don't make the money I use to make. In fact, I am lucky if I can pay the bills but boy am I happy.
I wish I could have figured out earlier in life that success didn't mean a huge house and lots of money so you had to work you booty off (oh, wait!! I never had a booty) and not enjoy the house and money. Success means doing what you love to do and enjoying family and friends.
