Melinda's Story
Life
I was born in Hodge, LA. and am the middle of seven children. Moved to Houston in 1968 and then to Deer Park in 1972. Married in 1976 had 2 daughters Reema in 1980 and Leila in 1983. Divorced in 1992 and remarried in 1997. Have 12 grand-daughters and two grand-sons between the 2 of us. Love every one of them. I am a member of the Gospel Music Artists Association of Dallas. I sing in various churches by request. I am currently singing with the Kingwood Chorale and Kingwood Summer Opera Workshop, in Kingwood, Texas. We just had our Opera Performance and it was Wonderful. It will be aired on Kingwood Cable soon.
Also, I performed with the Kingwood Grand Chourus at Carneigie Hall in March 07. It was an awesome experience !!
School
I wish I had not been so shy in school. Maybe I could have made more friends. I played the violin in the orchestra and sang in the choir. In Jr. High my ...Expand for more
favorite teachers were Mr. Adams (choir) and Mr. Hayman (orchestra). I liked science, but did not care much for math. I wish I had have studied harder in the classes I did not like. In High School I loved eating the Chili Burritos at the snack bar. That was my Favorite food.
College
I was a single mother raising two daughters and a full time student at Oral Roberts University. I Studied hard and really applied myself to make up for the lack in high school. I studied voice, performed in several operas and won the Opera Guild Award. I still fiddle on the violin. haha. After graduation I moved to Vienna, Austria and studied private voice for one year thus continuing my education. I have been performing with the Kingwood Summer Opera Workshop since 2004. I now perform with the Kingwood Chorale in Kingwood, Texas. We performed at Carnegie Hall this year and it was a wonderful experience.
