Melissa's Story
Life
Life is good. It didn't used to be but it all worked out the way it should have. My over-protective father made high school alot worse than it had to be. I understand it now that I'm older and a parent myself. It was just hard to understand at the time. After high school, I spent two and a half years secluded in my house...literaly. My only route to the outside world was once a month I was allowed to spend the night at my good friend's house.
Then something snapped. My friend made me see what was going on and that it was time to make some changes, so I did. I was "allowed" to apply for a job at a local retail store. Once I got the job I was ecstatic that, for once in a really long time, I had a reason to get up in the morning. I was quickly making friends and soon after I was hired, I found my future husband. But that was not part of my father's plan. I had to threaten to leave home, and actually did leave for a day, before he saw that I was a 21-year-old who wa...Expand for more
s living her own life.
That's when I say my life began. I ended up later that year marring the love of my life (we're going on six and a half years now). The following year we had our first son and two and a half years after he was born, we had our second son.
It was during my second pregnancy I was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder and have been trying to get a firm grip on reality ever since. I try not to think of the severity of what I have by still refusing to see a specialist three years after being advised to. Chalk it up to being stubborn and maybe a little fearful of the truth.
Overall, I am very grateful for what I have in life and love and I wouldn't have changed a thing.
Workplace
I still have no idea what I want to do as a career. I have spent years in retail, specifically in the electronics field. Right now I am working in retail in, what else, electronics. I am going into management with my company this fall when our oldest son starts school.
