Life
Let's see. After high school, I got my B.A. in Psych from the Univ. of Calif. Santa Cruz (where I also met great friends, learned to drink and did a lot of body surfing with and without a wetsuit - that's "wetsuit" not "swimsuit"). I worked in the social services for a while, moving up to Sacramento to be closer to government agencies. In 1997, I quit my job, and hopped on a plane to Abiko City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan and taught public high school English for 3 years. (By the way, my plane's engine caught fire and we made a crash landing - which made it onto CNN that night. It was cool!) During that time, I traveled extensively throughout Asia, including hiking in the mountains of Taiwan, taking a boat down the Yangtze River from Shanghai and crossing the heavily guarded boarder into North Korea. After that contract ended, I came back to Sacramento and became a corporate trainer. Eventually, I left the stability of a full-time job, and went into private consulting, where I made pretty good money ... when I was working. I traveled 100% of the time, so I gave up my apartment and lived in hotels for 2 years. I met the love ...Expand for more
of my life who did the same kind of work and also lived in hotels and we shared the happy lives of homeless professionals. Four months ago, we drove 2700 miles east and settled in not too far from Philadelphia, to be closer to his 3 girls. I'm looking for a project/contract out here to "conquer" and as a result have been lucky to see a lot of new places. Yesterday, I had a meeting right next to Ground Zero in lower Manhattan. Reminded me a lot of Tokyo. I start a two-week emergency project (which = $) for Comcast in Philly on Monday. And who knows what after that. I plan to start grad school next semester if everything works out. And Barney and I hope to finally tie-the-knot sometime next year. In the mean time, I'm learning to deal with the frick'n cold and the frick'n East Coast roads (I HATE turnpikes). And, most importantly, I'm learning how to be a new step-mom to 3 young girls. It's not easy, but it does offer some beautiful moments. Oh, and anyone who knew me in high school knows I hated cats. That was true, until I found a man who loves his. Now, I'm a proud co-owner of T-Rex -- probably the most grumpy cat alive. Oy! The things we do for love.
