Melissa's Story
I recently added the "author" hat to others I wear with joy -- wife, mother, lawyer ¿ when my first novel, Journey of Choices: Joanna's Crossroads, was published in January of 2009. I¿ve been earning my living as a writer, one way or another, since I ¿grew up.¿ I have a journalism degree from Indiana University; after college I did a brief stint selling lingerie (the one job where my writing skills did not matter), then worked for two years in the Aiken, South Carolina, school system. I went back to school in 1978 and in 1981 I graduated from the Washington and Lee University School of Law. I¿ve practiced law in Virginia and Minnesota, as a sole practiti...Expand for more
oner and in 200 member law firms, and I¿ve spent much of the past 27 years earning my keep as an appellate lawyer. I¿ve lived in seven states and one foreign country and I¿ve visited Europe twice, but the longest trip I ever took was from my head to my heart. Having my first child at age 32 was the turning point that led a radical college student down a Damascan road. I¿m the mother of two (a recently married son and a home schooled teenage daughter), an elder in my church and a pastor¿s wife (does God have a sense of humor, or what?). As Maya Angelou wrote, I ¿wouldn¿t take nothin¿ for my journey now."
