Merrill's Story

Well, here I am - updating my story! Just finished a new feature music documentary with Jim Jarmusch. Had a few nice visits to the states and recontacted some of you after making a KHS Reunion page on Facebook. If you google "artclips, the multi-media dreampalace", you will find an iceberg of clips, pictures, inventions from my current and recent past. College years were in Boston with 2 Kinnelon alumni roomates...hilarious. After college, I hitchiked to California. Took a volunteer job as cameraman at the first cable tv station in the world, CATV. Some exciting stories I covered: Jerry Brown for Governor! Backstage with Kieth Jarrett! Nude Sunbathing -Ban the Buns! I was also a reading assistant for problem kids and received a grant to make a movie with them. Budgets became tighter and it was a choice between keeping me or buying new carpets. The carpets won. started hanging around the Muppet Show Workshop. Before I knew it they were printing me business cards. By day I was buying wigs for Miss Piggy, by night I was making my own experimental video works. I was invited to show one of these videos as an "opening act" for the U.S. debut of the group "Joy Division". I invented a job, video jockey, coining the term to write on my first paycheck. MTV borrowed the term from me. After VJ'ing around town I licensed some of my music-video clips to Sony to promote indie bands...with Man Parrish, Jim Carrol, Lou Reed, Lenny Kaye, and others. I took a break from music video and made some documentaries. Won a couple EMMY's. Fell in love. Moved to Paris. I continue to make video films, animation, DVD authoring and web design. You can find me on Facebook too. I never visit here and don't read any mail here, I am not actuve on this site. It is a message in a bottle of sorts.
