I found being a trial attorney very much like teaching, but with a living wage. Did exclusively tort defense with Nationwide, with specialty in run-of-the-mill high value auto accident cases; property insurance/home owner's associations; complicated medical issues involving case value. Most memorable: Year in Rome, Italy,1964-65. Annual trips to Arowhon Pines outside of Huntsville, Ontario (Algonquin Provincial Park); trips to Japan in 1997 and 1998; Hong Kong 1997.
While all sane retirees tend to be snowbirds, I am, as usual, flying the wrong way and returning to NY. Winter's not so bad, if you don't have to go anyplace anyway. That's where all my family is. And I won't miss hurricanes a bit.
The return to CNY has been one of the best things I have ever done. I see family often, and travel with them to the Adirondacks, Canada and New England. I can sit out a snowstorm in a condo where the groundskeepers plow by 8 a.m.,, and I have learned to shop around blizzards and stock a pantry (and bar). Both Wegmans and my favorite liquor store now deliver. And I am blessed with a garage. It turns out that snow is much better predicted than hurricane and flood. New Yorkers are repaid for winter by glorious spring and fall, although we complain about horrible summer at 90 degrees. We put food in a refrigerator to extend its life; NY winter may have the same effect on us..
