Fr Michael's Story

I attended Cortez W. Peters Business School during the summer after the eighth and ninth grade and then took ABC Speedwriting the following summer. In time I also became a speed typist and ABC Speedwriting helped me to get through high school, college, and the seminary. In the seminary the dean told my classmates to get copies of my class notes since they were so complete. I also won prizes at the Katherine Gibbs School in typing competition to benefit Children Hospital. Because of my typing and shorthand, I have been the secretary of several organizations and when I needed work, I usually did find work in the clerical field. At the time that I was there, I did want to become a priest. But today I am extremely happy as a deacon in the Orthodox Church and I am also a good photographer and quite computer literate. I also speak some Russian and French and I still remember some of my Latin. I am so sorry that I did not have the opportunity to tell Cortez W. Peters Sr. nor Jr. how much...Expand for more
they have helped me. I attended Archbishop John Carroll High School in Washington DC and then Merrimack College. After graduation eventually I joined the US Air Force and attended claasses at Macon Junior College. When I left the Air Force, I moved to San Antonio and attended classes at University of Texas at San Antaonio and San Antonio College. From there I moved to Houston and then Sherman TX and attended classes at Grayson County Community College. After I returned home to Washington DC, I eventually entered St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary and earned my MDiv degree and moved to Baltimore. In September 2007 I was ordained a deacon and a few years later elected to the Bishop's Council of the diocese. I also have served on the parish council of St. Andrew Orthodox Church in Baltimore. I also served on the board of the Seton Hill Association and the Transit Riders League and Transit Rideres Action Council. I am also a volunteer at the Baltimore City Detention Center.
