Michael's Story
We had a great reunion. All of our classmates were there,. I flew in from Florida, Ken Gemperline from Colorado, Brother Bernie Spitzley from Jamaica, and Dave Eversmann from New Mexico. In addition, we had Fr. Ray Clark from Owensboro, Kentucky, who started in our class but was promoted a grade in Fr. Donahue's two years in one program. We also had visits by Jim Baum, Class of 71 and Marty Schroeder, Class of 73. We had Brother Don Champagne, who was in charge of finances, come for the entire event from Massachusetts. In addition, we had Paul Kolhoff and Rich Stein attend, who both started with our class but left over the years. Finally, we had call ins from Drew Sweeney, Class of 71, and Mark Hoffman, Class of 71, another one from our class who did two years in one. We arrived on Saturday and left on Tuesday. memory I mentioned during the reunion, as you covered, was our volunteering at the Villa.
Fr. Ray said Mass every day. We remembered at Mass our deceased classmates(including Bill Pitsch, Ted Fournier and Gary Kohut.), staff, and teachers. Pat Pitsch brought the yearbooks, as well as, old editions of the Random. We toured the neighborhood that was the seminary, but is now high end homes. Nothing was recognizable except for what we believed was the pond. Our last dinner on Monday was at a park in Perrysburg where we ate Klunkaburgers and sweet corn from Denny Horstman's farm.
Fr. Ray is a Diocesan priest for the Diocese of Owensboro, Kentucky. He was the best man at our wedding. He was ordained about thirty years ago. We attended his ordination. He has seen Don Edge over the years. Fr. Ray writes a column for a local paper. He also puts it on Facebook.
