Michael's Story
Life

I married Peggy Fournier in May, 1968, and had daughter Julie Anne in November 68. Went into the Marine Corps in April 68. Had son George Colin in July 70. When I got out of the Marines in 73, Peggy and I moved to San Diego, and later were divorced in 74. I then married Janet Cowperthwaite, from New Jersey, in 1975. We moved for college to Berkeley, then returned to San Diego. We were divorced in 1981. I married Betsy Press, from San Diego, in 1984, and we were divorced in 1988. I then went to Ridgecrest, and later remarried Betsy in 1989, and divorced again in early 1991. I met Trina Sabin,a credit Union manager, originally from Idaho, in May 91, and we have been together since then..we were finally married, on Feb 14, 2006, on the beach here on Maui. Julie, a real estate processor, is married to Richard Wachtel,a construction equipment repair foreman, and has a daughter, Katy Ellen Wachtel, born Dec 11, 1991, and a son, Jack Richard Wachtel, born Dec 10, 1998. they live in Englewood Colorado. George, an XRay tech, was married to Kim Savage, a massage tech, in August of 2004, and they moved to Maui in January of 2006. Their son, Evan Grayson Gallap, was born August 19, 2006.Their daughter Kaeleigh Noelani Gallap was born on March 1, 2009. In late 2010 they moved to Maine, and later divorced. George now lives in Fort Bragg, CA. As to family history, my dad Richard Gallap died in 1989, and my mom Peggy Gallap lives in Ridgecrest, as does my sister Mary Ladd. Big brother Chuck Gallap (Artesia High School, '57) still lives in Artesia. I now live in Wailuk...Expand for more

College
I went to Cal State Fullerton for one year, in 1967-68, then was in the service. Afterward, I went to Palomar College part-time 1973-1975, followed by San Diego State for two years, part time. I Was accepted to Berkeley's Optometry School in 1977. I earned a BS from Berkeley in 1979, and my Doctor of Optometry 1981. I went to the Ridgecrest School of Law from 1997 to 2001, earning a Juris Doctor degree May 2001.
Workplace
I worked a few odd jobs while I was going to my first year of college, then was in the Marines for four years. After that, I worked at the Post Office in San Diego for four years while getting more college units. After graduating from Berkeley, I was in the private practice of Optometry since 1981...
I was in San Marcos, Ca from 1981 til 1987, then in Ridgecrest, Ca from 1988 to 2005. I also worked at the China Lake Naval Weapons Station's Optometry clinic besides my own office, from 1992 til 2003. I am now semi-retired, on Maui, working part-time as an Optometrist at Costco and Lenscrafters.Trina works in a small Credit Union here in Wailuku.
Military
I attended Marine boot camp at San Diego, in the spring of 1968, then went to Camp Pendleton for ITR. I went to NATTC Memphis for school on flight simulators, then served three years at El Toro. I left in 1973, as a sergent. I later worked as a civilian contractor Optometrist at China Lake from 1992 til 2002. I am now a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary here on Maui.
