Michael's Story
Life
I spent nearly 6 years in the Navy, 4 years on board the Nuclear Powered Submarine USS Gurnard. I got out of the Navy in 1990 and went to work at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station as a Plant Equipment Operator. I have two beautiful children - Brennan in 1996 and Makaela in 1997. I remarried April 2004, adding Kela, and her 8 year old daughter, Tatiana, to my family... October 2005, just returned from my final visit to the home I grew up in. My Grandparents moved to the home in 1930. I spent the week helping my Mother get rid of 75 years worth of items that had collected in the home. Driving around Corunna and Owosso, it was interesting to see how much has changed. I look forward to returning for our 25 year reunion.
College
After 4 years on-shift at San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, I had the opportunity to take a cross-training position as a procedure writer. I attended school full-time while maintaining 40 hours a week at work. 36 months later, I graduated with a B.S. in Computer Science - Summa Cum Laude.
Workplace

nity to learn all aspects of operating and maintaining a Nuclear Power Plant. This provided me with the necessary skills to continue my work in the Nuclear Power Industry at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station. After 4 years of rotating shift work, operating the primary and secondary systems at SONGS, I worked as a procedure writer for the Plant Operations group at SONGS. After completing my degree, I transferred to the Computer Engineering group at SONGS. Over the past 9 years, I have had the opportunity to develop both professionally and personally. June 2006, I accepted a position with Westinghouse Nuclear working on the new AP1000 Nuclear Power Plant, which is currently in the design phase.
Military
I spent nearly 6 years in the Navy, 4 years on board the Nuclear Powered Submarine USS Gurnard, stationed in San Diego, CA. Over my 6 years in the Navy, I had the opportunity to live on all 4 corners of the United States, and visit the Western Pacific. It's hard to explain the comraderie the crew had on board the boat - it is the one thing I do miss about being in the Navy.
