Michael's Story
After graduation, I attended Southwest Texas State University, now Texas State University - San Marcos. Received my BS in Clinical Laboratory Sciences because, as it turned out, I was too dumb for Medical School. Graduated in 1978 with 160 hours (OK, I get distracted easily). Did my Medical Technology Internship at Methodist Hospital back in San Antonio. But I had already fallen in love with the town of San Marcos so I moved back and opened my own Outpatient Medical Laboratory. That was great for 17 years until the government got involved with "fixing" medicine (Obama isn't the first). Almost went bankrupt, but managed to pull off a miracle, sold to Clinical Pathology Laboratories, and went to work for them as a regional manager of the area between Austin and San Antonio. Worked there for 17 years then grabbed an early retirement offer. I got married at 29 to Sherry Parr who attended Edison, we are s...Expand for more
till married and have two children. My daughter graduated Texas State with a BS in teaching but has now decided she wants to be a Registered Nurse! She is now married. My son graduated from A&M with a BS in Mechanical Engineering (and I thought Pre-Med was too hard!!) and was married this year (2014). I'm very proud of both of them. I could not have hoped for better children. As a family, we did and still do everything together. Way too many memories to tell. I built a house with my own two hands (and my son's) on my wife's family farm. Retirement is sweet and I am busier than I ever was when I worked. Now I punch cows and live a life away from the city and that is paradise. Feel free to contact me if you even remotely knew me in High School. I was so introverted back then, thankfully owning and marketing for my own business cured me of that affliction. Those were fun times, at least in hind sight.
