Michael's Story
I'm long overdue updating my profile here... and *how* can _anyone_ sum up over forty-odd post-high-school years (some of them very odd indeed) in just a few thousand alphanumeric characters? Brother!
* * *
Well, first off let me say that I've survived thus far! I've fallen off a cliff, faced down guns drawn on me (twice -- once while carrying a toddler in my arms), demolished four cars and got out largely unscathed each time. That was the *fun* stuff!
* * *
But don't worry, friends -- I've never garnered anything worse than parking tickets and the rare moving violation. Nor have I had any addictions, beyond (fizzy) caffeine: no nicotine, alcohol, or any of the illegals... W. C. Fields would be ashamed of me.

Just one-ever broken bone, one set of stitches (back in 1974), and just about every last bit of my hair still intact (some silver in the goatee, and a tiny bit of thinning at my part -- but no bald patches or receding... whew! Sorry, guys.). Unfortunately, I'd like to shed maybe fifty-plus pounds -- so I run the occasional 5K, and try (not enough, yes) to log in more miles between those runs also. I'm still not perfect.

I was married briefly (1982-5) and gained custody of my daughter out of the sad debris, raising her largely on my own. I had another daughter (and *should* have married her mother) -- these two are both beautiful and brilliant girls (obviously taking much from their moms!), somehow in their thirties-ish, and they both know I'm immensely proud of the two of them. They are my heart, and I'm their goad... I wouldn't have it any other way.

ince have wedged in a few more classes... yet still haven't gotten the degree, though my hope remains to nail that down, finally, before much longer.

Nor have I published hardcopy, beyond a couple magazine appearances (via pseudonyms). I do still write (and am a couple hundred pages into a fun novel-to-be), and am itching to restart my blog and compare notes about what ruffles my feathers, floats my boat, or just tickles my lame funnybone... stand by! I do look back, sometimes. And I do still remember you!
* * *
While undegreed, I've kept my mind busy and engaged -- mostly in a broad array of languages (and a fair amount of history/science), and in computers (hardware and software both). The last couple decades have also seen me embracing and burrowing ever more deeply into my Catholicism, which has given me great peace and a rich personal fulfillment.

With both daughters graduated and changing the world, I'd hoped to enter a religious order or/and seminary, and dedicate the next half of my life toward giving back to the world, and my faith, either as a monk/brother, or priest. Yet life intervenes; my mother was debilitated by strokes, and instead I took on the vocation of assisting in her care for twelve years until her gentle passing... and now I'm beyond the age-threshold for the priesthood and most religious orders. I miss it, but don't regret it. I was right where I was needed most... and there may yet be some holy house for my retirement years.
* * *
Keep me and my family in your prayers, my friends; I've been praying for you, and will continue to do so. Take care, everyone, and I hope to hear from you!

Love,
Michael
