Michael's Story

Life Hello there!!! I'm looking for good old buddies of mine from the class of 1966 Leone High School. I'm currently residing in Hawaii, married, and have 3 beautiful kids. All my kids are married and are raising their own families in the State of California. I'm enjoying life by living comfortly with money from my two retirements: US Air Force and the Riverside Sheriff Department. I'm now residing in Honolulu, Hawaii, and am working as a Federal Police Officer pursuing a third pension. I'm not greedy; I'm just trying to set an example for my kids and others to emulate so they don't have to struggle in life. I firmly believe that where there's a will, there's also a way to accomplish it. And, obviously the key to accomplish this desire is through "education". There's a lot of windows of opportunity in this great Country, and it's there for us to take advantage of it. I have accomplished more than I had expected in life, and I gave all the credits to God who gave me the wisdom, knowledge and the strength to prosper in life. I just hope and pray that you, my classmates, are doing likewise in life. If not, please don't give-up hope, but put your faith in God and go out with the determination that you can do it too. In fact, God created us equal with the same desire in mind - live peacefully and less problems to deal with in life. Well, I hope you're doing ok; if not, start believing in God and use that special talent or talents that God has provided for you. Good luck to you and all of your future endeavors!!!!!! Oh, by the way, I was born and raised in Tau, Manu'a. I attended Elementary, Intermediate, and Junior High School there before transferring to Samoana High School at Utulei in June of 1962. I spent 2 years at Samoana, and then spent another 2 years at Leone High School after its first opening in 1964. As a matter of fact, we were the first students to graduate from Leone High School since its opening in 1964. I was always a good student who hated to socialize with the troublemakers in school. In spite of me being a good, handsome and bright student, I had problems finding a girlfriend or a date in those days. The reason was that I did not have the courage to confront girls about going out on a date...Expand for more
. In addition, there was no such thing as a "date" in the Samoan culture in those days. You might get lucky if you see the one you like during High School dances or other special school activities where girls are invited. But even if you see one, there will always a brother or a family member (chaperone) there to keep an eye on her. I'm not bragging, but I'm pretty sure that there were a lot of girls in my school days that would really like to go out with me; but they just wish I have that courage to confront them about it. Well, not until I moved to United States after High School, and started drinking and parties that when I found out that it was not that hard at all to talk to a lady about dating; especially when you're drunk and felt courageous after 5 beers or so. I was that kind of individual until I enlisted in the Air Force; got married, and then started to settle down. Through all that, I just thank God that I'm still alive, found a good wife and raised up good kids, and surprisingly, still maintained that youthful look despite my age. Just remember one thing -- "Past enriched the present" -- You don't have to dwell in the past, but use it to prevent you from going back to it; or use it to better yourself of all your future endeavors. Well, Good Luck to you all, and stay in touch..... Military Hello there!! Joining the military was probably the best choice I had ever made in my entire life. I had learned a lot from the military, and, it has really helped me in finding a good job in the civilian world. I've never regretted the time I spent in the military; especially the military branch I went to - the U.S. Air Force. It is one of the best branch of the Military compare to other military branches. I just wish I had a chance to be an Air Force Recruiter so I could recruit some samoans in the Air Force. It's sad that this is the only military branch that have only a few samoans in it. I just like to encourage our younger generations to try hard in school and consider the U.S. Air Force as your military branch of choice. It's a great branch to join if you have the brain and determination to take the test and pass it. If myself and other few samoans in the Air Force can do it, and so are you.
