Michael's Story
My last name is spelled P-E-G-U-E-S, that's Portuguese. I am a self-taught, self-made, well-known but still struggling artist, born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. I lived all over New York. After I graduated from High School Redirection, I attended Nassau Community College for a year. To survive I've relied on a lot of things and one thing is creating something on canvas. abroad in Napoli, Italy, at Le 4 Pareti and it was a big hit -- I sold out. In addition to painting huge vibrantly colorful expressionistic acrylic canvases, I often incorporate things I find in the street into my art. I take old and found things and make something new and beautiful and mine. And I am fashion designer, making unique one-of-kind pieces sometimes recycling vintage clothing to sell and wear, so I am a walking piece of art. I have a book out with Tom Mathew called "The Magic Rug" of children Christmas stories with my art illustrations inside each chapter. It's really unique and beautiful. I love shopping at vintage stores, listening to jazz, and going to gallery openings and receptions.
