Michael's Story
Life's been crazy, great. Right after leaving (dropping out) school and before becoming a professional touring musician, I was involved in auto racing as a pit crew member on a touring NASCAR Winston West Series race car where I had the fortune to be a part of the Riverside 500 when I was around 16. We got to race with some of the greats like Richard Petty, Bobby Allison, Cale Yarborough, etc... Although we didn't have a good finish at that race, it was an incredibly amazing time in my life. At the time I didn't realize just how impacting it all was with regard to direction in my life. I had always played guitar and as time went on, music became my focus and I put down the mechanic stuff. By the time I was 19 I was touring most of western Canada in club bands and the rest is history. I was very blessed and honored to have garnered a Juno Nomination in 97 for best new Blues Album. mention a few. I have two beautiful, amazing kids who keep me in line and keep me guessing lol.
I hope that all of you from our old school have had joyful, fulfilling lives. Unfortunately I lost most of my closest friends from school due to accidents involving drugs and or alcohol. I will always miss them. Damn, I almost lost me from the same thing during my time on the road in the music industry. There's a Neil Young song that perfectly describes part of my experience on the road in bands back in the day. It's called "Needle and the Damage Done" Fortunately, I gave all of that up many years ago, long before my children were born.
Life is a very funny thing with many twists, turns, ups and downs but we all see life through the filter of all our experiences. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to experience all of the experiences that I have had throughout my life. They have made me a better person. Who could ask for more?
