Michelle's Story
One year after Graduation I was working as a Hair Stylist, I married David Chaffin from James Logan Class of '80. We were married ten years when we had our one and only child Brandon and went through a divorce at the same time. I then took a job as a Purchasing Clerk at Litton Electronics in San Carlos. Five years after my Devoice I met my now Husband Allyn Merrell who was in the United States Airforce and lived in Hawaii. We got married May 22, 1999 and moved to San Leandro. I was working as the Office Managers Assistant at Empire Today and Allyn was working for Delta Airlines at San Francisco Airport. After 23 years in the Airforce Allyn retired one month before 9/11. We lived in San Leandro for six years when Allyn's job transferred him to Salt Lake City Utah. My Son Brandon was in his junior year at Newark High, so I gave my son the choice to come with us or stay in Newark and live with his dad, he chose to live with his dad. Allyn and I moved to Salt Lake City Utah in 2006 were I got a job as an Assistant to the QA/RA Manager for Innovasis Inc. We loved our four seasons and playing ...Expand for more
in the snow, but we had no family there. I would fly back to California to visit my family and my son, who I missed terribly. In 2015 Allyn was offered another transfer to San Antonio Texas. My Father, Stepmother, Half Sister and her family lived in Fort Worth and Allyn's Parents were living in Austin and he had one sister in George Town and one in San Antonio, so we decided to move to San Antonio Texas. I went to work as an Assistant Manager at the Wingman's Cafe on Randolf Airforce Base, feeding our young Airforce cadets all the way up to our retired Airforce Vets. I quite working at the age of 59 after having both of my knees replaced, gastric sleeve surgery, a rotator cuff surgery, and finally a foot surgery. Brandon finally moved out here in 2018 became an Electrician and met the love of his life Krystine and got married March 2022. We are all happy and healthy here in San Antonio and I am looking forward to some grand kids in the future to spoil. Allyn and I are planning to renew our vows in Hawaii, May of 2024 at the same Catholic Church he went to growing up, Mary Star of the Sea.
