Michelle's Story
Life
I was born in Logan WV and came to Norwalk at age 10. After attending Rowayton Elementary, Ponus Ridge Jr High, and Brien McMahon I graduated BMHS Class of 1974. I attended WVU in Morgantown WV for 2 years, before relocating to Riverside CA where I still reside 31 years later. My husband Richard and I have 3 daughters. As of this year 2009 Lisa will be 26, Kristen is 24 and Jamie will be 19. Lisa graduated the Medical Assisting program at Bryman College. She has been working in both California and Florida. She currently resides here at home while attending additional college classes at RCC. She also works part time. Kristen has graduated from West Virginia University (Dec. 2007) with a Bachelors in Englis. She is currently working at University of CA Riverside . She is currently applying to graduate school. Jamie graduated from John W North High School, June 2008, and is in marching band at Riverside Community College. She plays percussion. She also marched in the 2009 Rose Parade this year with the RCC Marching Tigers. I have been a Reservation Sales Agent at AMTRAK. I just celebrated my 12 year work anniversary in April 2009. I love to travel, and have been bitten by the travel bug. After I won a 7 day trip to Londonin 2001 , I had the opportunity to travel to Edinburgh, Scotland in 2003 and again to London. I have also travelled to Sendai Japan. My hobbies are gardening, and I even mow my own yards front and back. I take the ocassional trip to the NV casinos. I was an active booster parent when the girls were in high school.
School
At Brien McMahon HS I was your average student, who made honor roll several times. I was not an athlete, or active in clubs. I did enjoy my participation as a vocal avid fan at our varsity football, basketball and baseball games,as much as possible. I had a group of friends that I enjoyed spending time with at school and at fun activities, like the movies, the beach and an occasional birthday party. I enjoyed going to the SR class musicals every year. I was very much a spectator who was not part of the "in crowd" so to speak...Expand for more
. I do remember the time another "fellow" classmate tried to beat me up. I was just the quiet student who wanted to be left alone, but wanted to fit in. That person got suspended, and I did not, so justice was served.
College
I attended West Virgina University for 2 years. I was active in dorm life. I was a member of the Newman Club, that is the Catholic organization for college students. I had many dormates, and participated in intramural flag football. I also attended a military ball with a ranger corps member. I fondly remember our many football and basketball games. I really enjoyed college life in a small WV town. I wish I had been able to finish my full studies. I later obtained my Associate of Science Degree in Graphics Technology from Riverside Community College, Riverside Ca., 1994. I was active in student government, and became a student commissioner. I traveled with 24 fellow RCC students and faculty to Boston MA for a one week spring break.
Workplace
Since my days after high school and college I have had several different jobs. I became a telemarketer for the Leukemia Society, a job which I hated but was my first office job. Between stints at college, I worked for CALDOR in their telecommunications office. Later I became a toll free operator, for a local company called Listfax (it went out of business many years ago). After I came to CA and was newly married I again became a Telecommunications Operator (now utilizing telex, telephone and facsimile equipment) at Bourns Inc. for 10 years. I left that job as I was downsized 1 month before my youngest child was born. During that time I became a student again (3 years), while unemployed and considered job retraining. During that tiime at Riverside Community College in Riverside CA I obtained my Associate of Science degree in Graphics Technology. I resumed working, i.e. part time for Sears, staying 2 1/2 years and then got a "real" job (full time). That is how I then became an AMTRAK Reservation Sales Agent (1997 to the present). I just celebrated my 120 year anniversary at AMTRAK in April of 2009.
