Mike's Story
Life
Retired from Air Force Dec 1, 2001. Spent 12 years in Radio & Satellite Operations, and 8 years in Education and Training. Living in Anchorage, Alaska since 1996 with my lovely wife and daughter. Haven't been to New York since 1991. Currently working as Sales Floor Associate with Officemax Inc. Spent 3 years as a Training Coordinator with a non-profit Parent Training & Information Center that helps families that have children with disabilities. Hoping to relocate back to east coast in summer of 2006. Hopefully I'll have a job waiting...
Would love to hear from you!
College
After graduation, attended SUNY Geneseo. Was the year of Jimmy Carter election, so I was majoring in Poli Sci. Unfortunately, with ration of 6 girls for each guy, I didn't get much studying in. Went to OCC, and got A.A.S. in Business Admin. Attended Univ of Buf, majoring in Business and Computer Science. Got bored (& poor) and enlisted in the Air Force. Earned my Associates in Communications Operations Technology. Does 2 Associates = a Bachelor Degree?? Definitely learned more in the military than I ever would at any college.
Workplace
After retiring from the Air Force in 2001, I got a job as a Training Specialist with the statewide non-profit Parent Training and Information Center (PTI), PARENTS Inc., that provides information and training to families that have children wit...Expand for more
h disabilites. I learned a lot about Info Tech as we did numerous teleconferences and webcasts. After the State of Alaska made some funding cutbacks, "non-profit" seemed to be literally, so after 3 years of employment it was time to move on. I'm now a Business Floor Associate for OfficeMax, Inc. retail office supply stores. Not getting rich at it, but get to play with all the neat "toys" (printers, PDAs, digital recorders). Plan on relocating to NY/PA/VA/TN area in summer of 2006, depending on where the job search leads me. Looking forward to it as the Alaskan winters are getting old, plus I haven't been east of Colorado since 1991.
