Mike's Story
Moved to Motown in 1989. Both daughters now married (no grandkids yet); my son plans to finish college in December. (Update 7/1/2022: older daughter now remarried, younger daughter and son-in-law have a 10 yo daughter, son is now married and has a 20-month old daughter
Sue (Seattle native - met her at Shoreline CC) and I (update 7/1/2022: NO LONGER) own a undeveloped lot in a development near Hansville; we have a view to the west of Hood Canal and the Olympics. Our original plan called for me retiring from GMAC (now Ally Finacial) in 2009, then moving back to WA and building a house on the lot ... but, life happens I guess. (Sold the lot a few years ago, looks like we're in Michigan for the duration.)
Our younger daughter married a local guy last November, and they've announced that they'll start trying to make us grandparents before the end of this year ... which, of course, would make it more difficult to leave our adopted home here in SE Michigan. (7/1/2022: Yup, especially now that both "local" kids have a kid of their own.)
Lots more to tell ... stay tuned.
7/1/2022: I "re-retired" in May 2020 from Ally Financial (formerly known as GMAC); got pink-slipped in 2014 due to budget cuts, but went back as ...Expand for more
a contract employee in 2016 as a member of the "Data Migration" team, since Ally was finally retiring the system that GMAC deployed in 1989 that led to my transfer here.
I'm in a few bands here in Metro Detroit, primarily playing bass guitar and mandolin-family instruments in a couple of Celtic-flavored bands, a cover band, and my church band. Nice to be active doing music again after the COVID shutdowns, but yes my fingers are getting a bit slower and stiffer after gigs and practices.
Wife Sue (yeah, we just celebrated 43 years of "mostly" wedded bliss last week) has accepted an offer from her employer to start working permanent part-time starting 1/1/23. This should (hopefully) lead to more time to travel and do "fun things."
Sue and I finally had a chance to visit Ireland in June 2019 to celebrate our 40th anniversary; I had high expectations for the trip (2 nights on our own, before meeting up with a tour group for the final 10 nights) - and, the expectations were all completely exceeded. Scenery, people, opportunities to play and sing music in pubs - it was a dream come true.
Hope to see many of you at the annual informal reunions coming up each August going forward. Take care, be well, and God bless.
