Mike's Story
Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated...
After graduation, I studied drafting/design at BRTCC for a bit, but some soul-searching led me to decide that that wasn't how I wanted to spend my life. I worked at a few jobs around town until '88 when I was hired at Cranston Print Works in Fletcher. It was a great job, but "plant life" got pretty old pretty fast... I had joined the local volunteer fire department and went to classes to become an EMT (medical calls made up a majority of the call volume and y...Expand for more
ou had to be an EMT to answer those calls). The instructor was a paramedic for Buncombe county and encouraged me to go on to paramedic class at AB Tech so, in '92, I started the curriculum there and fell absolutely in love with doing that kind of work. After graduating in '94, I got on in Buncombe county and, in '96, I finally made it back home to Henderson county. Every job has its "bad days" but I actually look forward to going to work and I truly don't believe that I would be happy doing any other kind of job.
