Mike's Story
After 13 years as an Underground Contract Miner, the Copper industry went bellyup in 1984. I was a Pressroom Supervisor at a printing company in Casa Grande until 1997. I was then a Production Supervsor in a Metal Fabrication Plant
I then went to Prison in 2000--no not as an Inmate!!!!
I became the head of Maintenance at a private prison. After 2 years I became a Faculty member for Central Arizona College, teaching Work based Education to Inmates in the Arizona State Prison complex at Florence .I taught Custodial Maintenance...Expand for more
and Construction for 8 years. Then the State cut funding and I went to a Private Prison as a Case Manager. I then returned to Central Arizona College as the Facilities Foreman for 4 years. In 2014 I again returned to Prison and have been teaching Welding to the Inmate population since then.
I turned 66 and now I am working because I want to and not because I am trying to qualify for Social Security. As long as my health holds out I will continue teaching Inmates. My house is 3 miles from my job and it is an easy gig...
