Mike's Story
Life
I've been teaching in Toronto for the past 35 years, am married with 2 kids, 24 and 27 years, and live in Maple,(as a matter of fact, I've been living in Vaughan for over 30 years!!). Life is good!!
School
I was a student at TCI between the years 1967 and 1972. It was a great place to meet people and socialize. When I think back on the time spent in our "institution",I have nothing but fond memories. I hope my children's own high school experience was just as memorable...
College
I did the "royal tour" of Toronto's universities, attending Ryerson, York and Toronto. I have degrees in Journalism/History, and Education, but more importantly, I met some great people and had more than my fair share of "good times." A good contigent of TCIers went to Ryerson U. between '7...Expand for more
2 and '75, as well as York U. from '75 to '77, making the transition from high school to university life that much easier. I can't stress enough to any member of today's youth the value of post-secondary education, not just from the academic standpoint, but from the ability to expand one's horizons, both scholastically and socially. It was great! Anyone who has the opportunity should not miss it!
Workplace
I've been teaching for the Toronto Catholic Board for over 35 years, specifically in the Jane-Finch area of our city. Every year has been a challenge,(as you can well imagine with the type of kids I encounter),but I really enjoy working with the "kids from the hood." Despite all the political nonsense of the past eighteen years, teaching still is a rewarding profession.
