Mike's Story
Greetings fellow Bobcats. While I was unable to graduate with the great class of 1971, I was there for my first two years, before my Dad entered the witness protection program and we had to move. Just kidding…
But we did move to sunny Florida after my sophomore year, where I went from this small school in the country to a large city school. While I liked the beaches and weather, I missed my familiar surroundings. It didn’t help my Mom had passed away the fall of my sophomore year. (the real reason my Dad wanted to move ). Two years later my older brother, John was in a fatal motorcycle accident. We all go through tough times, some sooner than others.
I managed to graduate from Ft. Lauderdale High and then went off to Florida State University. I met my future wife the beginning of my 3rd year and we married three years later. We are still happily married with 2 kids and 3 grandkids.
I never thought I’d end back in Ohio but in 1984 we moved from Tallahassee Fl to Avon Lake, OH. I worked at American Greetings, which had their headquarters on the westside of Cleveland. I ended up working there for 23 yea...Expand for more
rs. How fast the years flew by. In 2005, I left American Greetings to go in business for myself. I had spent the last 16 years at AG as their manager of events and trade shows. I was able to leverage what I learned about trade shows and become an independent trade show contractor/ supplier. I had hoped to continue working a few more years but the Corona Virus pretty much put a halt to trade shows. So while I am not officially retired, it sure feels like it. And the fact is, I kinda like it.
I currently live in San Diego, CA. My wife and I moved out here in 2014. Both my children moved to CA after school and when we become grandparents in 2013, we knew we didn’t want to be 2,000 miles away. So we sold our home in Avon Lake and made the big move. What’s next? I don’t know. We love our life in San Diego. We love being grandparents. I think it’s the best job ever created by God. But I miss northeast Ohio. I miss the beautiful open farmland and the change of seasons. And I will always have fond memories of growing up in the area. If any wish to reconnect, shoot me an email.. I would love to hear from you...
