Mildred's Story
I grew up in Waldo, Florida and bussed to Gainesville High School. After graduation, I attended 2 years at Lees McRae in Banner Elk, NC. Then I transferred to Florida State College for Women (now FSU) and majored in English Education. I taught elementary grades in Gainesville, Honolulu Territories, and Jacksonville, Florida. sh teacher for the County. Soon, instead of travelling to each school, I had a television show that aired to all the schools. Sometimes I had a live audience - students from local schools. I took an early retirement in the 1970s.
I recall a severe ice storm in Jacksonville in 1961, and have some old pictures of school students then. Girls weren't permitted to wear slacks to school back then, but on this day many wore long pants under their dresses.
