Millie's Story
Life
I went to the U of A, got a degree in elementary education, taught 1 and 1/2 years in southern Georgia (Valdosta)--what an experience! I moved back here in 1971 and have been in the Sunnyside School District ever since. After five years in the classroom I got a library position, am now at Chaparral Middle School. My two boys, Jeff and Tim, graduated from Sahuaro High School and are now 28 and 26. Tim has a son, Brandon, who is 5. My husband, Cary Birenbaum (Catalina High School, class of '62) is a retired Social Studies teacher(30 years of 8th graders). He and I met in the Chaparral Library! he Classic Chevy club with our '56 wagon, but now just pick and choose events. We have about 5 old Pontiacs too, an old Ford Econline truck, a '60 Thunderbird and a '50 Dodge pickup. I will be retiring in May of '04 after a great career. My husband and I plan lots of mini-trips, and I hope to see more of my family.
Now it is March of 2009. We have added and subtracted some vehicles, done lots of traveling, added another grandson--Oliver will be two tomorrow--I retired as planned, but was able to sub for insurance benefits, working mostly in libraries. Now I belong to the sewing guild, go to the gym more regularly, attend weekly Weight Watchers meetings, eat out with friends (thus the need for the meetings), and enjoy life.
