Misti's Story
I'm living next door to my mom, where I lived in highschool. I am married to Richard Linn who graduated from Pinson High School in '88. We have been married 17 years(07/27/91). We have a daughter Sarah and a son Cody.
I was diagnosed with MS in '89 after high school. I didn't start having problems with walking until about '98 and progressed from a cane to a wheelchair in a 4 year period. I now use a power chair to get around. I have minimal use of my right hand and arm.
MS has slowed me down alot. I like to think that I see and notice more than I would if I wasn't vertically challenged. Like I said before, I live next door to my mom. We moved from a trailer between my mom and grandparents to my grandparents house. My 80 year old grandfather(Carl Wesson) and his 70 something friend(Milton Johnson) framed in the basement and Tom Hill hung the sheet rock. Bob Johnston did the plumbing for my sink(in the bedroom) and my wet room. My husband and Joel Phillips tiled my wet room. I call it a wet room because there isn't a surface in it that can't get wet....Expand for more
I have a sidewalk that goes around the house, a ramp onto the porch and a ramp into the house. It works for me.
Anyone that knows me doesn't really see the chair anymore. It doesn't define me. My kids definately don't notice the chair so much and that is why, when they go through a door, I often get left on the other side. lol. I've been known to get stuck in the yard early on a Saturday when no one else is awake. I took the dog out, got stuck in a soft spot that wasn't there before it rained. I know because I try to retrace my routes. Did I have my phone? Of course not! My mom says that I didn't call like I was supposed to as a teenager and things haven't changed much. I was stuck out there for a few hours until I saw my daughters bedroom light come on. I then proceeded to holler loudly. Remember, I told you,"they don't really see my chair." She comes to the door, sticks her head out and says,"Mom, why are you sitting out there?" Well, there are plenty more stories where that came from. We laugh. We laugh alot. Can't wait to hear from someone.
