Sissy's Story
Life
I have updated my profile. My original story was directed towards informing my old classmates what I have been up to since high school. But, I have collected several new friends, and therefore, decided that I should put the whole scoop.
I was born in Okinawa, Japan, as the third child, but first daughter to Lonnie and Moira Graves. We were an Air Force family, my mother being British. My siblings were born in France, Germany and the U.S. My brothers and I explored the world and discovered the unique beauty of foreign lands as children. We became rich in experience and held an esteemed appreciation for the good old United States of America. There's no place like home.
As an infant, I burned my hands, and spent a great deal of time having my hands rebuilt by the best burn doctors in the world at Brooke Army Burn Center at Fort Sam Houston Army Base in San Antonio. The doctors did an incredible job using state of the art (for the time) skin grafting techniques. Enduring this lengthy traumatic experience gave me a real joy and passion for life, realizing that everything as we know it, can change in the blink of an eye.
I discovered a very soulful connection with performance dancing at a very young age, dancing on the dance team at Samuel Clemens High School. I continued dancing through college as a Rangerette for Kilgore Junior College and on the pom squad at the University of Texas Austin. During the summers, I would travel around the US teaching Drill Team camps for a division of National Cheerleaders Association, developing a love for working with teenage girls.
I found myself in Houston, TX, pursuing a sales career in the Information Technology arena, where I met my husband, Jerry. We have been together for 23 years, married for 20. He is truly th...Expand for more
e love of my life, although it has been no picnic. Picnics are only fun until the bugs get there, anyway.
We currently live in Allen, a North Dallas suburb. And have for the past 18 years.
Our oldest daughter, Eryn, is 18 and our youngest daughter, Alexx, is 16. I have been lucky enough to be able to share a common interest with my daughters, competitive cheerleading and dance, where I instructed, choreographed, and directed several teams. And I have relived my youth on several occasions, as I traveled to different cities to judge National Cheer and/or Dance Team Competitions. There is nothing quite like a bunch of retired cheerleader/dancers getting together sipping on a couple of drinks. It becomes SHOWTIME!!!
I now spend my days as a technical recruiter, placing IT and Engineering professionals. I would like to say I have hobbies, but my job, being a mom (my favorite job that I've ever had) and having 4 dogs and 2 birds keeps me pretty busy. But, I am game for just about anything that involves a good laugh.
I have had a yearning in my heart for quite a while, but have not known how to direct it. I have made a decision to be a person that makes a difference. I think each of us has the ability to take part in making this world a better place. It is our responsibility to ourselves and our children. So, I am putting a plan together to do just that and start a not for profit foundation to redirect our youth from being a generation of takers to being a generation of givers. We can only do this by Empowering and Strengthening the Spirit of our Youth. I'm going to do it. Who's with me?
My husband and I plan on returning to the Hill Country in a few years. Although we love Dallas, God is in the air in the Hill Country, and we want to make our way back.
