Monica's Story

Life Greetings from Yakima, Washington. My husband, Dave, and I moved to Yakima from Richland in 2000. We have no children and no plans for any, but I do have 2 4-footed cat children that rule the house. I've gotten into crafts quite a bit more since school, and currently rubber stamp, scrapbook, cross stitch, quilt, crochet, sew, and more things come and go as they peak my interest. We are looking at buying our first home in the next few years, as we will likely be in Yakima until Dave retires. He works for Cub Crafters on their 2 new airplanes. I'm still an avid reader, and have also taken up snowmobiling, which I love! We have all the techie toys of the modern-day couple, except I refuse to get a PDA as that would mean I'd have to actually stay organized and I refuse to exert that much effort for it. If you are ever round about Yakima, please give me a call, we are in the phone book. I'd enjoy talking to you. I'm not in any choirs or singing groups anymore, but I still sing all the time. Some habits aren't meant to be broken I guess. We currently have a 5th wheel up at Rimrock Lake, in one of the resorts, and it's so nice to have a weekend retreat home to go and unwind. I still continue to love all things Disney, Scooby-Doo, purple, musicals, country music, 50s & 60s music, puzzles, fantasy/Sci-Fi: movies, TV and books, Star Trek, chick flicks, Mel Gibson, and Sean Connery. Not a lot more going on. I have 2 nieces from Dave's side, and for those of you that know my sister, Donna, she has 2 kids now - Chloe and Cameron. My folks still live in the Colville area, and we go up about every 2-3 months to visit. I currently collect (besides more crafting stuff!) tea strainers/infusers, old girls' series mystery books, Precious Moments figurines, quirky earrings, and Alaska memorabilia. Hope to chat with you soon! Monica School yeah, right... even now I'm not going to admit who I had a crush on in school. You know who you are and that's all that needs to be said on that topic! :) I think the teacher I remember the most fondly from high school would have to be Mrs. Gintz, who is such a special lady. I only didn't care for my 11th grade english teacher (boring) and the chem teacher (scary). I was in 8 different schools from 1st to 12th grades, so I have lots of fond memories of different teachers, many more than I do of fellow students to be honest. I hated being the new kid, and the hardest transition for me was moving back to Colville in 10th grade and meeting all these people who remembered me from 1st & 2nd grade when I had no clue who any of them were. I wouldn't trade my years in Alaska for anything, but it did make me very wary about meeting new people and opening up to them. Now you know the whole Dr. Phil story. My all time favorite teacher is Greg Deiss, who was my teacher in 7th grade, and is my dad's best friend. He even helped me make i...Expand for more
t through Algebra I without flunking out. I loved being in choir all through high school, and then the Jazz choir as well. Fun times. And I really enjoyed being a yearbook photographer my senior year, doing layouts, and learning how to develop the pictures I took. Next time you look at the 1989 Colville yearbook, remember that I designed and proofed many of those pages. Explains a lot, doesn't it? Well, I never said I wasn't always weird. I missed my ice rink when we moved back down from Alaska. I used to ice skate at school all winter long, and go to all my cousin's hockey games as well (real hockey, not fights on ice). I always felt like I was outside looking in through high school, and my lasting friendships are from the year I spent at college and since. I'd like to talk to those of you I hung around with back then, as I didn't get much of chance to at the 10 year reunion. My grandfather passed away later that year, and I spent most of the weekend caring for him, so I was only able to attend the reunion for a couple of hours or so. It's still a shock to go back and pass our old school and see that it's now the local college. The new school just doesn't look right to me. Progress interferes with my weepy nostalgic side... sigh... Workplace Let's see... My first job was at Gallo Meats in Colville, then I did campus jobs the year I was at college, then I moved to Tri-cities and worked at Burger King, then Target, then did store demos, then (my favorite job so far) worked at Barnes & Noble. Then we moved to Yakima (no Barnes & Noble!!) so I looked for an office job and hired on at a local title company. I currently work out of the Clerk's office at the county courthouse, but am jointly employed by 4 local title companies to do their courtwork for them, which doesn't make me a county employee so I can't get a county parking spot. And if you've ever worked where the only other parking was 2 hour, you know how truly annoying it can be to have to go move your vehicle every 2 hours. I do enjoy my job, but I have to hide my county issued badge as people overlook the print that says I'm a Title employee and just notice that it looks like all the other county employee badges. All it truly means is that I passed their background check and can safely be in the building 40 hours a week, in close proximity to sensitive information. Military Sorry, never joined the military. Came close at the end of my senior year, when the recruiter bet me that I couldn't get a 95 on the test. (I got a 92, btw) He was very impressed, but I didn't like the sound of boot camp... I'm just too lazy. I have great respect for those in the military; my father, uncles, and grandfathers have all served, and I'm very proud of their service to our country. And one of my best friends is in the Navy Reserve currently, and she will most likely sign up again until she retires.
