Monte's Story
Hello, Everyone
The past 29 years of my life has just
breezed past. I wish I had said more and gotten to know you more when I had the chance. What a privilege it was to attend Burris and have you in my memories. I remember Ball State and my
hometown, Muncie where I spent the first 27 years of my life. I was active
at Muncie Emmanuel Church as Publicity
officer (drew some posters). Kept looking for jobs after graduating from
Olivet Nazarene University. Didn't find
any to keep me around home. Got a letter and picture from a Navajo Indian kid in Arizona-and decided to go
and help teach at Twin Wells Indian School, Sun Valley, Arizona. Learned some things about Navajo culture (They point at things with there lips when talking and raise their eyebrows to say "yes") I really enjoyed the wide
open spaces as I hiked and rode a bicycle down Sun Valley Road looking for ghost towns. Found out if I stayed out too long and it started to rain,
the sand would start to cake up on the tires. I really enjoyed working with the children and being the 1st to 3rd grade boys dorm parent. 13 boys was more than I co...Expand for more
uld handle, though.
After a year school finances worsen-
ed and I wound up in a trailer park in Phoenix. After a few odd jobs and sub
teaching for Roosevelt School District, I decided on the Art Institute of Phoenix, for an Associate degree in Graphic Design-to design things for print and web. Now, how am I going to pay those loans off? I feel like I've left my first love. So, I've
narrowed it down to two professions:
Either I get certified and back into
teaching fast or become a cartoonist.
I used to be a Star Trek fan, but gave
up on aliens, so my old strip "Uncle
Shazinxa" probably won't get reworked.
I am still active at Maryvale Nazarene
Church, as a 3rd/4th grade teacher.
Hope I get to come back to Muncie for a visit sometime. Hope all of you are doing well with your lives and your careers. It's after 2 in the morning so
I better turn in.
Sincerely,
Monte Brown
Sincerely,
I always wanted to be a artist when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a good drawer idea. As it turns out, they were right. I still want to keep drawing, at least as an alternate career path..
